The
worrying trends in teen suicide and family
breakdown, in business corruption and collapse,
have led international businessman and author
David Powell to research and compile innovative
solutions to these and other issues in his
latest book Spirit Intelligence.
Powell
will be at Borders Store Westfield Shoppingtown
Hornsby next Thursday night, 7 August where
he will sign copies of his book which is
aimed at supporting readers make the best
choices at work, at home and in their lives.
Launched
with a prestigious group of guests from
business and media in Sydney last month,
Spirit Intelligence gives straightforward
approaches to manage life's challenges better.
As
David Powell says, 'This is the red pill
choice as made in the Matrix movie.'
The
book is divided into six parts with 19 chapters.
Each chapter stands alone peppered with
how tos, quotable quotes, diagrams and useful
knowledge. And each has a practical summary.
Powell
is a compelling and persuasive writer. He
uses contemporary language and ideas to
engage the reader into harnessing their
spirit intelligence. He plays hard and encourages
youth, individuals and business to do so
too.
Powell
was trained as a chemical engineer - with
honours from Edinburgh University. He has
worked in the oil and gas industries, in
computers and management and for the last
10 years in training and professional development.
He has 'walked the talk'.
And
when it comes to family life and dealing
with youth, he is father of three adult
sons including twins.
As
teenagers the boys were encouraged to draw
their own life visions. The family regularly
reviewed each other's goals, their progress
and their learnings on the journey.
Says
David, 'We also regularly used the "I
feel like saying" tool to let everyone
have their say on what was working and what
was not working for them in family life.'
As
the boys grew older, they also used a *PERT
planning tool with big sheets of paper and
yellow post-it notes to plan major projects.
David
and his wife Gabriele explain, 'We also
regularly discussed systems awareness so
the boys could search for the root causes
of problems.'
So
in addition to inspiring business and helping
in the community, the 175 practical keys
in the book Spirit Intelligence have
been tried and tested to improve family
life.
David
combines humour with energy and passion
to encourage all Australians to lead more
purposeful and fulfilling lives.
